Last verified: October 7, 2026. We make Tatany, one of the tools below. To keep this fair, every competitor fact links to the page we read it on, and we say where another tool is the better choice.
How we compared
We read each product's homepage, pricing page, FAQ and terms on October 7, 2026, and opened the live generator where a page did not state a detail. We compared what each tool offers for free, whether you need an account, the cheapest paid option, how many tattoo styles it lists, and whether it has a stencil, virtual try-on, lettering or cover-up tool.
We did not run a scored image-quality test across all eight tools, so this page makes no claim about which one draws the best tattoo. Image quality depends on your prompt, the model and the style, and it is worth trying two or three tools with the same idea. Prices and limits change; check the linked page before you buy.
The short answer
- Best free option with no account: Perchance, if you only need quick concept sketches.
- Most styles and the biggest idea library: BlackInk AI.
- Best free stencil tool: Ink Studio AI's Tattoo to Stencil, which needs no account.
- Most tattoo tools in one place, including cover-up, filler, try-on and stencils: Tatany or Tat Ink.
- Already designing in an all-purpose editor: Canva or Adobe Firefly.

Tatany
Tatany is our own web app, so read this section with that in mind. It groups eight tools: an AI tattoo generator, a tattoo font generator, image to tattoo, a tattoo stencil generator, tattoo filler, tattoo cover up, virtual try-on and a tattoo idea generator. It offers 12 styles and 14 body placements, and generates with GPT Image 2.5 by default or Nano Banana 2.
A free account gets 15 welcome credits, valid for 30 days, and one free standard generation per day while signed in, while the daily free pool lasts. A standard image costs 10 credits. Plans start at $4.95/month billed yearly ($59.40 a year) or $9.90 billed monthly, and a one-time pack costs $19.90 with credits that last ten years. Any paid plan removes the watermark free downloads carry and unlocks private designs and 2K output. Pro adds print PDFs at an exact width in centimetres, mirrored if you need it; Studio adds 4K output, four variations per click and bulk downloads.
Where it falls short: you cannot generate without an account, the style list is shorter than BlackInk's or TattoosAI's, and there is no mobile app. See pricing.
BlackInk AI
BlackInk AI appeared on 11 of the 13 recent "best AI tattoo generator" lists we reviewed, more than any other tool, and it has the widest style range here: its homepage lists 28+ styles. Free accounts get 3 credits, and one run returns two to four images. The free tier limits you to common styles, blurs some images, makes designs public and may delete them after 30 days.
Pro Unlimited costs $15 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $72 a year, and adds unlimited designs, special styles such as chicano and ignorant, line-weight and colour control, private designs and unlimited image-to-stencil. It also has cover-up and filler tools and a body-placement preview. High-resolution downloads are 2048 × 2048 px.
One point to read before you use a design commercially: BlackInk's terms of service give you a licence and state that all rights to the designs belong to BlackInk AI.
Ink Studio AI
Ink Studio AI pairs a generator with a large set of free browser tools. New accounts get one free generation. Paid access is sold as one-time passes rather than subscriptions: $12.99 for 7 days, $16.99 for 14 days or $23.99 for 30 days, each with unlimited text-to-tattoo and a set of premium credits for photo conversions.
It lists 12 styles, three of them free. Its strongest extras need no account at all: Tattoo to Stencil runs in the browser with clean-outline, high-contrast and pencil-sketch modes, and the font tool compares your text in 46 fonts. A try-on tool works on a sample body or your own photo.
We found no cover-up tool. If you want one short burst of generations without a recurring charge, the pass model is a good fit.
TattoosAI
TattoosAI gives every account four designs with no card, and its free tools, including a stencil maker and a font generator, work without an account. The stencil maker processes images on your device and produces outlines only.
The homepage lists 18 styles. Pricing is $14.99 a month, or an annual plan shown as $4.99 a month, both with unlimited designs. On the basic plan, designs go into a public gallery; Pro keeps them private.
Its FAQ says it has no try-on yet. For unlimited generations at a low monthly equivalent, the annual plan is one of the cheapest options in this list.
Tat Ink
Tat Ink offers the same set of eight tattoo tools as Tatany: generator, font creator, image to tattoo, tattoo to stencil, filler, cover-up, try-on and idea generator. Its pricing page says every user gets free daily generations that reset each day; it does not state how many.
Its tool pages say results are saved for seven days without sign-in. Paid plans are monthly: Ink Pro $8.79, Ink Pro+ $16.79 and Ink Max $34.99, with 300, 900 and 2,500 credits that do not roll over. The site lists 20+ styles and output up to 2K.
Canva
Canva's AI tattoo generator is a tattoo-focused entry point to Canva's general image generation, with style presets and an optional reference photo. You need to sign in. Canva Free includes up to 20 uses of AI tools a month, and Canva Pro costs $144 a year with ten times more AI use.
There is no stencil, try-on or lettering tool built for tattoos. Canva is the natural pick if you already use it and want to drop a concept straight into a mood board or poster.
Adobe Firefly
Adobe's Firefly tattoo generator accepts a text prompt of up to 750 characters or a reference image. Free Adobe accounts get free daily generations with a curated set of models, and paid Firefly plans start at $9.99 a month.
Adobe describes its own Firefly models as commercially safe, which matters if you design flash for sale. It has no tattoo-specific stencil, try-on or lettering tool.
Perchance
The Perchance AI tattoo generator is free, needs no account and shows no watermark. It runs a Stable Diffusion model with a description and a negative prompt, and returns four to eight images at a time.
It has no reference upload, try-on, stencil or lettering tool, and the page shows ads. It is the fastest way to explore rough ideas at no cost.
How to choose
- Decide whether you need more than a picture. If you plan to hand the design to an artist, a stencil, a print at the right size or a preview on your own skin saves a step.
- Check what "free" means. Free tiers range from no account and no limit to a single generation; some make free designs public.
- Read the licence if you will sell or tattoo the design for clients. Terms differ on who owns the output.
- Try the same prompt in two tools. Results vary more between prompts than between tools.
Whatever you pick, treat the result as a concept. A tattoo artist still adapts the linework, size and placement to your skin.
